The Alexander Dawson School is very proud to announce that our sixth, seventh and eighth-grade world language students took this year’s International French Exam and the National Spanish Exam, respectively, and the results are in! Here's how our students fared:
Le Grand Concours is the national annual French competition sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French
(AATF). According to the AATF, more than 23,000 students from around the world took the Level 01 and Level 1 French test in 2018. These exams measure vocabulary, grammar, and reading and listening comprehension.
Dawson sixth and seventh-grade students took the Level 01 test, competing with more than 4,900 students from around the globe. Five Dawson students scored a medal and seven earned an honorable mention. Sixth-grader Christina P. scored a gold medal and ranked 1st in the state and 3rd nationally. Seventh-graders Jillian K., Symphony W., and Isabella V. scored silver medals. Jillian ranked 2nd in the state and 5th nationally; Symphony ranked 3rd in the state and 6th nationally, and Isabella ranked 4th in the state and 7th nationally. Sixth-grader Myles W. scored a bronze medal and ranked 5th in the state and 10th nationally.
Dawson eighth-grade students took the French level 1 test typically administered to French I students in high school, along with more than 18,000 students from around the globe. Six Dawson students scored medals and six earned honorable mention. Eighth-grader Charlie G. scored a gold medal and ranked 4th in the state and 5th nationally. Eighth-graders Sophie G., Carson M., Zach M., Camille O., and Anya G. scored bronze medals. Sophie and Carson both ranked 7th in the state and 11th nationally; Zach ranked 8th in the state and 12th nationally; Camille ranked 9th in the state and 13th nationally, and Anya ranked 10th in the state and 14th nationally.
According to the American Association of Teachers of Spanish, more than 40,000 students from across the nation took the Pre-level 01, Level 01, and Level 1 Spanish exam in 2018. These exams measure vocabulary, grammar, and reading and listening comprehension.
Dawson sixth-grade students took the Pre-level 01 test. Nine students scored medals and one earned an honorable mention. Sixth-graders Billy J., Isabelle K., Jessica R., and Gabriella V. scored bronze medals and ranked between 78th-81st percentile nationally. Rohan G., Raelyn M., Carson S., and Adan T. scored silver medals and ranked between 86th-93rd percentile nationally. Maesen P. earned gold and ranked 97th percentile nationally.
Dawson seventh-grade students took the Level 01 test and four scored medals while seven earned an honorable mention. Seventh-grader Conrad Becker scored a bronze medal and ranked 77th percentile nationally. Andrew Gl., Andrew Gr., and Humberto T. scored silver medals and ranked between 85-93rd percentile nationally. Andrew Gr. placed first in the state and received an award check for $110.
Dawson eighth-grade students took the Level 1 test typically administered to Spanish 1 students in high school. Four students scored medals while seven earned an honorable mention. Eighth-grader Cameron L. scored a bronze medal and ranked 83rd percentile nationally. Evan F. and Justin T. scored silver medals and ranked 90th percentile nationally. Eli P. scored a gold medal and ranked 97th percentile nationally.
The National Spanish Examinations
are the most widely administered Spanish tests in the United States.
