Third Grade Kicks Off Country Studies in Bangladesh & Philippines

Dawson's third grade launched the Country Studies "Courageous Leaders Advocating for Peaceful Change" Tour today with trips to Bangladesh and the Philippines. Students in Ms. Hudson's class taught their visitors to Bangladesh about everything from food and cricket to Muhammad Yunus, a Bangladeshi social entrepreneur, banker, economist, and civil society leader who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for pioneering the concepts of microcredit and microfinance. Ms. Benson's students covered Philippine dance, food, dress and more, as well as the EDSA People Power Revolution, a sustained campaign in the 1980s of civil resistance against regime violence and electoral fraud.

Using the Lower School through-line of windows and mirrors, the central theme behind this year’s Country Studies unit is “courageous leaders advocating for peaceful change”, in which students will highlight an important figure from their particular country of study and form a deeper understanding of this individual’s quest for peace in the face of adversity and hardship.  #DawsonDifference
