Rich was born and raised in Regina, Canada. He earned a B.Sc. degree in Biology from the University of Regina, a B. Ed. from the University of British Columbia, and a Masters of International Education from the College of New Jersey. 
 
After starting his teaching career on Vancouver Island, Rich taught overseas for 11 years in American International Schools in Venezuela and Brazil. Rich and his wife, Dr. Nicole Zito (Dawson's Dean of MS Academics), then moved to Massachusetts where, in addition to starting a family and receiving his American citizenship, over a 12-year period Rich taught science and served as the Director of Innovation at a K-8 independent school in Manchester-By-The-Sea, MA. Rich, Nicole, and their two children spent two years at the International School in Santiago, Chile, and they moved to Las Vegas and began at Dawson in July of 2021.
 
Rich served as a National Faculty Member for PBL Works from 2015-2020 and is passionate about education innovation in all its forms, about creating authentic and meaningful education experiences for students, and about Project Based Learning. In his free time, Rich enjoys spending time with his family, playing music, fly fishing, skiing, digital designing, learning languages, and traveling.

The Alexander Dawson School

The Alexander Dawson School at Rainbow Mountain, an independent school located on 33-acres in the community of Summerlin, is Nevada’s first Stanford University Challenge Success partner school for students in early childhood through grade eight. Utilizing the unique Challenge Success framework, Dawson uses research-based strategies and programs that emphasize student academics, wellbeing, and a healthy school-life balance to create more engaged, motivated, and resilient learners and leaders. At Dawson, students achieve their individual potential while savoring life and meeting the challenges of the world.
