How long have you been a teacher?
I have over 18 years of experience working in private/independent schools, 11 of which have been teaching pre-kindergarten. I also worked as a substitute teacher in the public school system for four years. This is my ninth year working as a lead teacher in EC at Dawson.

What’s your favorite thing about teaching at Dawson?
One of my favorite things about teaching at Dawson is working and collaborating with such amazing educators. I also love working with new children and their families each year.

What is your biggest goal for this school year?
My biggest goal this year is that my students will develop a love of coming to school. They are some of our youngest students with a long road of school ahead. I want them to leave my class knowing that school is a fun, safe place where their voice is heard and where they can be challenged, take risks, and learn new things.

How did you discover your own Brave Voice?
I find as a parent of a young girl I am always looking for my brave voice. I want to be sure I am teaching her what she needs to know, but also stepping back when she needs to figure things out on her own. Likewise, as a teacher I want my students to find their brave voices, which is a balance between me knowing when to challenge them and when to step back.

What is one thing about you that would surprise your students?
One thing that may surprise my students is that I was very shy growing up and still can be in certain situations as an adult.

What is your favorite thing to do when you aren’t working?
My favorite thing to do when I am not working is spend time with my family. I also enjoy trying new restaurants, reading and shopping.

What are you most proud of?
I am most proud that last year I was able to see my first pre-kindergarten class at Dawson graduate from eighth grade. What made it even more special was that my former student gave the graduation speech. During his speech, he spoke about being in my pre-K class and how that year set the foundation for his successful Dawson career. I was so proud and touched that his time in my class had a lasting impact!
