Stella was born and raised in New Jersey, just outside of Manhattan. She has been in education since 1997 and has been at Dawson since 2003. Stella earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Geological Sciences from Rutgers University and a Secondary Science Teaching Certification from the University of Colorado in Boulder. She received an M.Ed. in Educational Psychology/School Counseling from UNLV. Stella began her career in education as a Teach For America corps member in North Carolina, where she taught high school science. She moved to California where she worked as an Astrocamp instructor, then to Crossroads School for Arts & Sciences in Santa Monica where she taught earth/space science and chemistry. Prior to working in education, Stella worked as a geologist for Amoco Production Company, the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory, and the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute. Stella holds a State of Nevada license in both secondary science education and school counseling. She enjoys travel, reading, crochet, and making and eating foods that have a story behind them.  Stella has two children, a daughter that attends Dawson and a son that is a proud Dawson alumni. They are the loves of her life.

The Alexander Dawson School at Rainbow Mountain, an independent school located on 33-acres in the community of Summerlin, is Nevada’s first Stanford University Challenge Success partner school for students in early childhood through grade eight.
