Share one of your favorite Dawson memories:
Oh man, there are so many! In lower school, it would be my role as the ringleader in Mrs. Beagle's first-grade circus; in middle school, it would be every moment I spent in Mrs. Shim's choir class.

Who were the Dawson teachers that impacted your education/life the most?
I was so lucky to have teachers and mentors at Dawson whose advice and kindness have stayed with me always. The influences of Ms. Freeman, Mrs. Shim, Mr. Browne, and Mr. Burby really helped make me the woman I am today.

What skills and competencies did you learn at Dawson that you continue to use today?
The most valuable thing Dawson gave me was my curiosity and excitement about learning new things. Dawson also gave me grit and the perseverance to stick with something when it's tough (thanks, math class!). Lastly, Dawson was where I first learned how to be an authentic and empathetic friend and community member. These academic and interpersonal skills I first began developing at Dawson continue to shape my life every single day.

How did Dawson prepare you for high school, college, and beyond? Dawson's emphasis on critical and creative thinking made me feel confident in high school and college. The books we read in Mr. Browne's eighth-grade English class surpassed the complexity and rigor of my AP English curriculum my senior year at Gorman, but Mr. Browne made those books feel approachable and engaging.
Can you share 1-2 academic or professional highlights that you’re proud of?
In undergrad, I was the recipient of Duke's two highest honors for research and writing in the humanities: the Middlesworth Award and the Koonz Prize. In 2016, I worked in the Obama White House.

Why did you decide to be part of the Dawson Alumni Council? Dawson will always have such a special place in my heart. I was in one of the first classes to have students attend from kindergarten to eighth grade. It is important for the older generations of Bears to share our experiences, resources, and networks to help shape Dawson's institutional and generational memory. I feel very proud to be a part of that work.
Any advice for current Dawson students?Work hard, have fun, and listen well. Also, enjoy recess! You will miss it!
