Dawson Student Creates Campus Plant Identification Guide

The Alexander Dawson School is proud to announce that Middle School student Nicholas Oliveri has developed an online guided tour of several beautiful and drought-tolerant southwest desert plants purposefully installed on our campus.

Nicholas, working with Mr. Scott Clemson, a Dawson instructor and Enviromaniacs advisor, said that Nicholas began this project over a year ago during a community service class.  Nicholas, with budget support from the School, worked in and out of school for more than a year to first research and develop the necessary text for the first nine plant identification signs around campus, then on the development of a website resource guide of the campus flora.

Last school year, Nicholas and Mr. Clemson installed the first set of nine signs around the Middle School campus, with more to come across the entire campus this year. The online e-guide contains a map noting the locations of the signs, with pictures and detailed information about each plant.

Nicholas says,"These are the first nine plants, but I plan to do many more this year."
