  | Dawson Donates 200 Chinese Books to Sahara West Library In a ceremony held last week, The Alexander Dawson School donated nearly 200 Chinese books to the Sahara West Library. The entire collection, which consists of more than 300 books, including 130 children’s books on loan, will be on display at the Sahara West Library through February 5.

 Dawson Selected as Survival 3D Pilot Site Hofstra University, in partnership with Bloomsburg University, has selected The Alexander Dawson School as one of 12 sites across the country to serve as a pilot to test Survival Master 3D, a multiplayer computer game that teaches middle school students engineering and technology concepts. Funded by the National Science Foundation, the game challenges middle school students to virtually build a model of an emergency shelter that can keep victims in Alaska alive after a devastating earthquake. A hands-on, physical modeling version of the curriculum – taught using tools and materials – is employed in conjunction with the virtual experience.

 Lower School Raises $7,853.42 for Heifer International
As part of their community service activities, The Alexander Dawson School’s Lower School partnered with Heifer International, an organization that provides livestock and training to families in need around the world. Heifer International helps families improve their nutrition and generate income in sustainable ways. In exchange for their livestock and training, families agree to give one of its animal's offspring to another family in need, passing the gift along to others.

Pre-kindergarten students sit at a table during center time with giant, bright, silicone boxes that look like they could withstand a multitude of natural disasters. Look closely and you will notice that these young students are actually using carefully protected iPads.
