First graders, led by Ms. Betty Aurbach, Mrs. Normalynn Beagle, Mrs. Chris Milwer, and Ms.Colleen Banks, have chosen “Adopt a Grandfriend” as part of character education. In collaboration with Willow Creek Terrace Assisted Living, Dawson first graders are “adopting” a grandfriend with whom to share experiences and establish friendships.

Meteorologist Kevin Janison, from channel 3 news, visited our second grade classes last week to talk about weather forecasting, weather instruments and weather disasters. This visit integrated the second grade science unit on weather, which they are studying in October and November.

First graders celebrated Halloween in their annual tradition by singing "The Counting Creatures" song by Lori Fraesdorf Peth and Rosanna Gallagher. Memorization of this song enabled the students to polish their counting and singing skills.

Bijou the Therapy Dog, a white Standard Poodle, came to Dawson to visit the Kindergarten and first grade students. She is proudly owned by the Cevaer-Corey family; Luca Cevaer-Corey is in Mrs. Lackey's kindergarten class. Mrs. Cevaer-Corey has trained Bijou to be a certified Therapy Dog.
